For the first time we held a mental health talk in Kitengela Campus, and it was a successful event. We were joined by the University counsellor, Madam Belinda Mumo, who enlightened our students on factors that affect and how our mental health in turn affects our Emotional, psychological and social well being.
Ms. Mumo educated us on how mental illnesses starts and the different types of mental disorders e.g; anxiety, depression, bipolar, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). We also had Top care hospital as part of the presenters and the Clinician, Mr. Lazarus Rapando educated our students on the various issues that can lead to mental health, for example; Family issues, trauma, neglect, childhood abuse, social isolation, long-term stress and having a long-term physical health condition.
There was a question and answer session at the end, where students participated and aired out their issues.
